Revised Pano-Mounts Phase Change Thermal Pad Kit Overview

This is a follow-up to my original video and article on the Pano-Mounts phase change thermal material. After I shared my feedback on the installation process, the company sent me a new, revised version of their thermal pads designed to be easier to work with. So, in this article, I'm going to walk you through my experience with this new version, from cleanup of the old material to the final installation. Reviewing the Thermalright TL-G12 and TL-C14 Fans

I recently picked up a bunch of Thermalright fans for a new PC build, specifically the TL-G12 (120mm) and the TL-C14 (140mm). At the time, they were pretty inexpensive, and the promise of fluid dynamic bearings (FDB) along with PWM control sounded like a great deal on paper, so I bought quite a few of each. Trying Out Pano-Mounts PPTM7950 Phase Change Thermal Pads

Today, let's take a look at the Pano-Mounts PPTM7950 phase change thermal pads. Full disclosure: Pano-Mounts did send these over for me to try out and make this video about them.  UPDATE: Pano-Mounts sent me a revised material that is easier to install, so check out the related website article and YouTube video to see that in action.  Holding the Pano-Mounts PPTM7950 thermal pad packaging. The specific pads I received are the 40x40 mm size, with a thickness of 0.2 mm. They are rated at 8.5 watts per meter Kelvin for thermal conductivity. What makes these interesting compared to standard thermal paste is that they're made of a thermally conductive phase change material.  Graphic explaining how phase change thermal pads work. It's never easy building a PC! 👏 AMD 9900x PC Build Part 4

The new computer is alive! It's up and running, and basically fully functional. I've got Windows 11 installed, and I'm even using OBS on it to record the video related to this article. Coming from older hardware circa 2015 or 2016, this thing is fast. There are a few things I want to talk about, some adjustments I made, and some challenges I faced along the way. Heatsink Decisions and Thermal Mass I was initially planning to do some testing with a smaller Thermalright heatsink. But, in the end, I prioritized finishing the build. The reality is, when you're comparing a 90mm heatsink to a 120mm one, the larger one simply has more thermal mass. The larger heatsink installed. I was only able to attach one of the 120mm fans. For a CPU like the AMD Ryzen 9900x, that extra thermal mass should help avoid throttling as much. I wasn't able to fit two fans on the larger heatsink due to placement issues.
