Today I am taking a look at the Galatin Pro K719 from Redragon. Keep in mind that Redragon did send me this keyboard to try out. They had to agree to my demo product terms which means they have no say in any of the content and they were not allowed to preview anything before publication.

This specific model is the "essential black" version. It has full RGB lighting, but features partially black keys and a black base shell. Included with this keyboard is a keycap and switch puller, a red spacebar, a red escape key, four additional Dragon Chant switches, and a USB-A to USB-C cable.

The included cable has a 90-degree USB-C end, which works perfectly with the style of this keyboard where the USB-C port is located on the side rather than the back.
Layout and Design
This keyboard utilizes a 95 key layout, which is a pretty unique size and shape. They tried to compact things down by taking the arrow keys and moving them up a little bit into some of the numpad area. I think it works out nicely to make that numpad a little less distracting for your mouse hand if you are right-handed. In my case, I do usually prefer smaller layouts because those allow me to have the keyboard centered. This specific layout feels like a good mix of the two.

They call this a gasket mount structure. It features five layers of noise dampening, which includes some sort of foam backing and a plastic cover of sorts. There is a little bit more flex to this keyboard, but it seems like it is intentional based on the description of their design with that gasket type setup.

Plastic materials on the bottom of the Galatin Pro are a little bit thinner compared other, more expensive, mechanical keyboards that I've used but overall it seems pretty solid.

For ergonomics, it is possible to tilt this keyboard on your desk. It has two feet for each side, giving you a smaller notch and a bigger notch depending on if you want a longer or shorter tilt.

Connectivity and Battery
The side of the keyboard has an interesting layout with the USB-C port and a toggle switch for your connection modes. You can easily choose between a wired connection, 2.4 GHz wireless, or Bluetooth. This unique placement is exactly why they include that 90-degree angled USB cable. If you do not want to use the specific cable that comes with it, you will have to buy a cable that works well with this side setup.

On the other side of the keyboard, there is a slot where you can safely store the 2.4 GHz USB dongle. When connected to the computer, typing is pretty much instantaneous with that 2.4 GHz mode. Bluetooth takes a little bit more effort to pair, but it works fine. For example, you can hold Function 1, 2, or 3 for 3 seconds to put it into pairing mode with the computer searching and it should show up quickly.

Inside the keyboard, there is a 4,000 milliamp battery to power those wireless modes. You will want to charge it using standard 5v USB at two amps or less, and make sure not to use fast charging. There was a warning message in the documentation to not use QC (quick charge) technology with the keyboard.
Keycaps and Switches
The stock keycaps are made of PBT material, which should resist a shiny look over time. They are double-shot, so all of the text is shine-through and will not wear away. This makes for a much more long-lasting type of keycap.
Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) is a highly durable, textured plastic utilized for keycaps that resists the shiny effect caused by natural oils from your fingers over extended use. Double-shot keycaps are manufactured by molding two different layers of plastic together, ensuring the text legends never fade.

Looking closely at the keycaps, you can see they mixed two different colors of plastic. One part is the opaque black, and the other is a milky white, semi-transparent material that allows the LED lighting to shine through the text.

With these switches, the keyboard supports 3-pin or 5-pin variants, meaning pretty much anything standardized will work fine if you want to replace them. The LEDs are positioned at the top of the switch socket, so keep that in mind if you decide to buy replacement keycaps.
I am personally a very big fan of ultra quiet switches. If you are soft or gentle enough, you will not get that loud clack when bottoming out but typing like that isn't probably realistic for most people.
Since they are linear, you also do not get that added tactile push-back. However, the awesome thing about mechanical keyboards with hot-swap support is that you can just use whatever switches you want with the base. During my testing, I popped in a Kailh box pink silent switch and an Outemu silent switch just to see if they work. They fit perfectly and work exactly as expected.

RGB Lighting and Customization
This is a full RGB keyboard with 20 lighting modes. You can toggle through them directly on the keyboard or by using their software. You can change colors and cycle through patterns like red, green, blue, yellow, purple, white, and full RGB.

My favorite mode for the lighting is the gamer mode. You can easily toggle specific keys on or off to light up based on whatever game you want to play. You just hit a few function commands to record the custom keys you need lit up, which is a great feature.
Comparatively to the other keyboard I was using, the maximum light brightness is much lower here. If you want really bright RGB lighting, this is not going to be the keyboard for you. But if you prefer a subtle light and do tend to have a darker computer area setup, this will be just fine.
The Screen, Dial, and Software Experience
With function commands, the LCD screen, and the dial, you can control a lot of the keyboard by itself without having to use the custom software. The screen can display your connection speed, language, time, and built-in GIFs.

You can use the software to upload your own custom GIF, like a dancing cat or even a custom drawing you make directly in their app. It looks like you can only store one custom GIF in the keyboard memory at a time, but swapping them out is simple.

While the hardware controls are neat, I did run into a few difficulties using the screen and dial interface for the first time. It is a little confusing, and I did not notice any documentation going over how to use it properly. I especially struggled with adjusting the time. Eventually, I figured out that you have to use the dial, the screen, and the numpad to type in the actual numbers to set the clock.
I do prefer standards like VIA for keyboard mapping, but in this case, you are going to have to use Redragon's custom software. It is capable of fully changing what each keyboard button does, adding custom macros, and adjusting the lighting in finer detail.

VIA is an open-source, web-based software interface utilized for configuring QMK-powered mechanical keyboards. It allows users to remap keys, build complex macros, and modify lighting on the fly without the need to re-flash the keyboard's internal firmware. It is widely preferred in the custom mechanical keyboard space for its accessibility.

I will say that the Redragon software is easier than getting VIA set up from scratch. When I previously configured VIA for another keyboard, I had to push a specific profile into the software and had to enable design mode so I could apply custom settings.
One potential quirk I did noticed while doing a live stream unboxing. Having multiple keyboards connected to my computer caused some issues with my other keyboard once the Redragon keyboard was removed. I do not know if it was some sort of Windows bug or if it was caused by their software.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I enjoyed using the Galatin Pro K719 from Redragon. I would say the best aspects of this keyboard are the tri-mode wireless connection and its fully hot-swappable PCB. It is very easy to move your keyboard away from the desk but still control the computer wirelessly. If you want different switches, it is a standardized mechanical keyboard, so you can easily swap to whatever fits your personal preference. In my case, I will most likely swap out the switches at some point to get the exact sound profile I want.
